There's an invasion of ladybirds in our bathroom

Mon Oct 26, 2009, 5:36 AM
Seriously, I don't know why. Obviously it's comfy in there.

Anyway, Halloween is coming up and for once I'm super-excited about it. There will be a party including costumes and funny food. Also, my Halloween costume will be the last one this year. Afterwards there's a little plushy project for a friend but that will be it.
I shall write some more instead.

Anyone else feeling tired about Christmas?
It's really annoying to see all the food and decoration in stores two months before the holiday. Plus, it's like 1/12th of every goddamn year. It was nice and exciting when I was a kid but now it only seems kitschy and annoying. I'm not even a christian. Ah, well.

Have a nice week all of you and don't let those kids steal your candy.

Convention Report: Connichi

Fri Sep 25, 2009, 1:54 PM
Friday:
After a two hour drive in a tightly packed car (well, I could move my arms) and waiting for the caravan guy to show up and stop babbling we finally arrived at the convention center in the early evening. Unfortunately it was too dark to take any photos of my Little Red Riding Hood costume (the Grimm's Manga version). Nevertheless we had a look around and talked to some friends.

Saturday:
I was dressed as Hinamori Momo (Bleach), my current favourite costume (because it suits me and it's very comfy). We saw an absolutely fantastic Dragonball group that also performed on stage. I guess that was the best part of the day. We had some more fast food, talked to some more people, got our pictures taken and were generally hanging out.

Sunday:
The World Cosplay Summit performances were disappointing. 95% of it was drama + regret + Nightwish. Like, wtf people, there is some other music out there, seriously. And just because the occasion sounds somewhat important doesn't mean you have to make it all dramatic. Well, it was a bit of a waste of time. Afterwards I put on my Anemone (Eureka Seven) costume for the first time ever - the whole costume, that is. Within ten minutes of wearing it I fell down the stairs and bruised my ankle (which I already mentioned in the comment of my latest deviation). Despite this, I really liked the costume and enjoyed wearing it. I will definitely wear it again although it's a bitch to transport (it has a diameter of one meter).

All in all I had a great time and due to the fact that I was the only female person in a group of five there was no bitching. It was very relaxing and I noticed how much I had missed going to conventions, showing off my work and just spending time with friends and people who share my interests.

I'd like to thank everyone who was there with me, my friends, and the people who appreciated my costumes.

I'm always trying to give back things to the community of cosplayers (or deviants on DA) by sharing things like tutorials, patterns and general advice. That's very important for me because I learned a lot from other people who do the same.

I have some ideas for new plushies that I intend to sew some time this year. I will soon add a second Baby Zora pattern, among other things.

There will be one more costume for halloween but all cosplay costumes will be realised next year. There are just too many things I'd love to do and I will have to settle for two or three of them.

Convention Report : Hon-Con

Wed Jul 1, 2009, 5:59 AM
Last weekend I went to the Hon-Con, a local, medium-sized convention.
It was my first big convention in what seemed like ages (I don't count the Frankfurt Book Fair since it's no convention per se). And boy, it was fun.
Due to a lack of time / time I had to spend studying / my being super slow I only managed to finish my Hinamori Momo [Bleach] costume. Plus I ran out of material for her shoes the night before the con so I had to wear ordinary girly shoes.
Nevertheless I enjoyed myself. It was fun wearing the costume, I had the opportunity to talk to friends and do some karaoke singing. There was even Japanese food, green-tea ice-cream and waffles. I spend most of my time in the company of men which was quite relaxing :XD:

I have now joined a group of young writers and I'm looking forward to working with them, exchanging ideas and experiences. I hope I will meet their expectations. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the seminar in two weeks.

Pictures of my costume will soon follow!

Back to the roots

Thu Jun 11, 2009, 2:45 AM
-> EDIT: I just became addicted to this version of "All Along the Watchtower" by Bear McCreary that they played on the season 3 finale of Battlestar Galactica: [link]
I love the music for this show anyway but this blew my mind! Even if you don't know/like this show you absolutely need to listen to this.

I recently realized that I miss writing. It's a very time-consuming hobby and one that doesn't pay off as easily as cosplaying. Which is probably why I haven't written anything in ages.
But since I know this absolutely lovely and encouraging author who told me about a writing seminar in July I just couldn't resist and wanted to take part in it. So I do! I'm looking forward to meeting new people and maybe making some friends. And the location is going to be fabulous: a castle!

I guess I'm going to be very busy in June and July. There's still about a thousand things I have to do and a thousand things I want to do additionally.
So finishing my current costumes and writing will be my priorities.

Have a nice summer everyone and try hard not to drown / be eaten by a shark ;)
